A quick search in the research journals on the effects of chiropractic care on migraine headaches will show countless numbers of case studies to go along with clinical studies that all show pretty amazing results.

The largest scale study ever done on headache sufferers looked at more than 2600 patients. The study combined the results of 22 different studies. A large percentage of the subjects in the study showed improvement with 22 percent of them showing a drop in the number of attacks by a whopping 90 percent. Another large study done in Australia on Migraine sufferers found that the people in the study that received Chiropractic care had fewer attacks and needed to take less medication than those not receiving chiropractic care.

Yet another study showed that migraine sufferers saw a drop in episodes by 90% and that each episodes duration was dropped by 38%. The medication use for the patients in this study was reduced by 94%.  Nausea, vomiting, photophobia and phonophobia were all reduced as well.

Why does Chiropractic care have such an amazing effect on folks who suffer from migraines? The answer lies in the anatomy of the upper neck. Nerves and blood vessels that run from the upper portion of the spinal cord and neck, pass through the bones of the upper cervical spine. Even minor misalignment of the upper neck puts pressure and tension on these nerves and vessels leading to multiple issues including headaches of all kinds.

Re-alignment of the bones of the upper cervical spine relieves this pressure, allowing the body to function normally. It is through this release of pressure and tension and the subsequent restoration of normal physiology that healing takes place.

Chiropractors across the globe have taken care of thousands of patients suffering from migraines with success. Most of those patients were not experiencing that type of relief with medications alone.
